The only well preserved ancient theatre in the territory of Ukraine. Ancient traditions are being revived today, in summer the city theatres perform here.

Theatre was also a center of public life. It was there where plays were staged as well as public meetings and celebrations were held.

During the reign of Roman Empire, theatre performed fights of gladiators and wild animals hunting were held.

Later 2 churches were built inside of anchient theatre in Tauric Chersonesos. One of them was called Temple with an Ark. Here a silver coffer of 6th century with the shrines of an unknown saint was founded. Now it is stored in the Hermitage. The temple has the shape of  the equilateral cross.

Chersonesus is one of the 7 miracles of Ukraine. This place-state, Chersonesus, has long life, almost 2 thousand years. And its history is a part of Greek, Anchient Rome, and Byzantine history.  During archeological digs in 1827 the scientists gave Chersonesus one more name – Russian Troja.

The ancient architectural monuments that have preserved till nowadays: hellenistic theatre, roman citadel, medieval christian monasteries, residential districts, streets, potteries, well holes, marble columns.

Museum “Chersonesus” estimates above 200 thousand exhibit items. The most significant  are  oath of Chersonesus citizens, frescos, mosaics, Christian icons.
