What is Interesting to Know about Simferopol District or Useful Information for Rural Tourists
The Simferopol district includes 119 villages and settlements. Gvardeyskoye (Guard) is a settlement situated on the banks of Salgir River 18 km from Simferopol. Near to Gvardeyskoye there are some Mounds of the Age of Bronze. In the Golden Mound archeologists discovered a rich burial of a warrior of the V century BC with an armour and iron sword, bronze arrows in a wooden quiver and gold decorations.
The territory of Gvardeyskoye had a common name of Sarabuz with villages Spat and Shunuk. After immigration of Crimean Tatars to Turkey there were only 10 homesteads in Spat. In 1881 37 German colonists settled in Spat and 10 in Shunuk. In 1945 the village of Spat was renamed as Gvardeyskoye and the railway station of Sarabuz as Ostryakovo.

Nowadays Gvardeyskoye became an industrial complex supplying the inhabitants of Simferopol with vegetables. The farm center has constructed hotbeds, green-houses and a cannery. Gvardeyskoye is a research center, here works the Crimean gardening experiment station, the steppe department of Nikitsky Botanical Garden. The farm centres of the villages of the Simferopol district are specialized in different agricultural branches.
The farm centers of Skvortsovo and Novoandreyevka grow grapes. Pervomaiskoye (First May), Mirnoye (Peaceful), Denisovka, Donskoye, Mazanka (Clay-walled Cottage), Rodnikovoye (Spring Water), Urozhainoye (Harvest), Chistenkoye (Clean) are the farm centres specialized in vegetables-growing and dairy products. Kamenka (Stone) specializes in pig-farming, Kolchugino and Nikolajevka have got wineries and are engaged in wine-making. Perovo is known for its poultry farm and high productivity of animal husbandry. In Molodezhnoye (Youth) there is an academic experiment farm of the agricultural institute.
