Some useful tips for Russian learners:
- Learn the alphabet before you go, or in the first couple of days after you get there. That way you’ll be able to read street names and the signs outside shops, banks, post office etc.
- Learn a few words and phrases – if nothing else: please (пожалуйста), thank you (спасибо), hello (здравствуйте, привет) and goodbye (до свидания, пока), how much? (сколько?)- it does make a difference!
- Crimeans use the same written numbers as in Western Europe, so prices displayed on cash registers or calculators will be easy to read. But if you’re shopping at the market, take a pen and paper so you can ask the market vendor to write down the price – then it won’t matter if you can’t understand what she says!
