Crimean hotels being awarded stars
Some 20 hospitality facilities in Crimea have passed categorization and received star ratings.
The information center on resorts of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea said on May 5 that 15 hospitality establishments were assigned the Three Star category and four hotels received the Four Star category.
In addition, in April 2011, the Yalta-based Villa Elena Hotel & Residences club and hotel was assigned the Five Star category.
According to the tourism department of the Crimean Resorts and Tourism Ministry, work on categorization of rural estates has started in the autonomy. In particular, eleven estates in Dachne (near Sudak) have applied for categorization.
A commission consisting of representatives from the Resorts and Tourism Ministry of Crimea, the Crimean Scientific Center of Standardization, Metrology, and Certification, as well as from the public organization entitled «Slow Food Crimea» will assign the categories to green tourism facilities.
Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Resorts and Tourism Minister of Crimea Heorhiy Psariov noted that the introduction of compulsory categorization of the accommodation facilities would create incentives for entrepreneurs to compete and improve the quality of their services.
The information center on resorts of Crimea reminded that on February 1, 2011 the Verkhovna Rada passed at first reading a draft law of Ukraine on amendments to the law of Ukraine on tourism regarding the categorization of tourism infrastructure facilities.
The document eliminates Article 18 from the current law, which establishes certification and standardization in the tourism sphere, and amends Article 19 on the compulsory categorization of tourism infrastructure facilities (hotels and other establishments providing accommodation services, restaurants, resorts, etc.).
