When you come to the Crimea don’t miss the opportunity of visiting its Southern coast, which is popular not only because of lots wonderful sightseeing objects, but the unique Crimean flora. To obtain a deeper insight into Crimean flora you must go to the Nikitsky Botanical Garden.

HOW TO GET

The Nikita (small village where the garden is situated) is only 16 km from Yalta. To get the Garden in Nikita (from Simferopol) you can by marshrutka (mini bus) which goes from Simferopol railway station to Yalta, or by trolleybus ( the departure from railway station in Simferopol ), it will take much more longer, the trolleybuses are very slow. You should also remember that the entrance to the Nikitsky Botanical Garden not right at the bus stop, it will take about 20 minutes to reach it. The way back will take even more, when you finish your visit to Nikitsky Botanical Garden, you’ll be almost at the seashore of Black sea. More »

Crimea in 20 Best Trips of 2011

Posted by traveltocrimea on Апр-1-2011

Today I’ve read in National Geographic a very nice decribtion about Crimea, so would like to share it with you.

The Black Sea coast of Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula remains a mystery to most travelers. With its subtropical climate, underwater grottos, South Shore seaside resorts (including Yalta, Simeiz, Alushta, Koreiz, and Gurzuf), Russian imperial palaces, and dramatic white limestone backdrops, this former “Russian Riviera” of the Soviet era attracts savvy European visitors searching for a less crowded, close-to-home Mediterranean alternative.
Beyond the stress-reducing mineral spas, palm trees, vineyards, bike trails, and secluded beaches, the coast is a significant cultural crossroads blending ancient Greek and Roman, Byzantine, Russian, Tatar, and modern Crimean history and architecture. Visit the terrestrial and underwater ruins at the ancient city of Khersoness (4th-12th century B.C.), the neo-Gothic Swallow’s Nest castle perched 130 feet (40 meters) above the sea near Yalta, and the Livadia Palace near Yalta—home of the last of the Russian tsars and site of the Big Three’s (Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin) 1945 Yalta Conference.

The Nikita Botanical Gardens have been growing tulips since its foundation, and modern cultivation and annual tulip selection has been a speciality for more than 50 years.

During the festival’s Tulip Parade, the honorific title of Flower King will be bestowed upon the year’s best tulip breed. Don’t miss the dazzling colors of this year’s Spring Flower Parade.

Then he plans to come to Ukraine at Prime Yalta Rally, then will start racing at Geko Ypres Rally, Belgium and at Sata Rallye Acores, Portugal, then he goes to Czech Republic to Barum Czech Rally Zlin, RACMSA Rally of Scotland, England and to the final event of the season to Cyprus Rally, Cyprus.

The main Crimean resort regions

Posted by traveltocrimea on Мар-21-2011

The main Crimean resort regions:

The South Coast of the Crimea is the territory between Phoros and Alushta.
Its unique climatic factors are conditioned by the protection from the cold northern air streams movement.

Ayu-Dag Mt.(the Bear Mt.) © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002 This region has an extensive transport network, beautiful beaches, luxurious hotels, expensive restaurants and entertainment of different kind. It is rich in sights. Only in Greater Yalta there are more than 500 historic, cultural and architectural objects. Among them are aristocrats’ mansions, palaces and parks. The South Coast used to be the most favourite place of recreation for the Russian aristocracy and Soviet state elite, including M. S. Gorbachjov.

Yevpatoria © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002 The West Coast (Yevpatoria and Saki) is the most well-known climatic, balneological and mud resort. Yevpatoria is the largest in the CIS health resort for children (73% of holiday makers are children). There are also a lot of sandy beaches in this region.

Novy Svet © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002The Eastern Crimea is the coastline from Alushta to Feodosia.
This region is famous for its pebble beaches as well as for the most interesting natural and historic objects (Sudak, Novy Svet, Karadag). It is popular for quite modest prices in comparison with the South Coast.

Sevastopol, Ruins of Hersones © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002 Sevastopol is the region where the recreation near the sea can be successfully combined with sightseeing. There are numerous curiousities of historic and natural character including the biggest Soviet military base.

Bakhchisaray, Khan's Palace © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002Bakhchisaray region is the region which is sometimes called «Crimean Switzerland». It has a lot of unique historic and architectural sights, «mountain towns», relics of Moslem architecture. It owns all necessary conditions for mountain tourism, hunting and fishing tours.

Cape Tarkhankut © Photo I. Salnikov, 2002 At the same time less traditional places of recreation are becoming more and more popular. It is the territory of the West Coast of the peninsula. Among them are such places as Peschanoje, Nikolajevka, the west- eastern part of the Crimea with its unique natural objects. These are the Cape Tarkhankut and Kerch peninsula. The latter combines the appeal of historic and natural objects ( Kazantip, Pantikopeya, Kerch ) with modern vacation entertainment. The largest dance floor in Europe is situated there in Scholkino, in the building of the former nuclear power station. What is also of particular interest that the recreation there is considerably cheaper than in other regions.
